What is the role of the Defender of Rights?
Answer. To defend people whose rights are not respected, especially in dealing with an administration, and to fight discrimination.
Défendre les personnes dont les droits ne sont pas respectés, surtout face à une administration, et lutter contre les discriminations.
The Defender of Rights is an independent authority. It can be contacted free of charge in case of a conflict with a public service or discrimination.
The official text that proves it
« Elle a pour mission de défendre les personnes dont les droits ne sont pas respectés et de permettre l’égalité pour tous (lutte contre la discrimination). Elle intervient pour régler les conflits entre un service public et un usager. »
Its mission is to defend people whose rights are not respected and to ensure equality for all (fighting discrimination). It steps in to resolve disputes between a public service and a user.
