Answer. The rooster.
Le coq.
The rooster is a well known national symbol, for example on the jerseys of French national teams. It is not an official symbol of the Republic.
The official text that proves it
The rooster is not officially recognized as a symbol of the French Republic, unlike the tricolor flag, Marianne or the national motto. But because it is so widely used, it has become a strong national symbol.
