Can a child refuse to go to school for a religious reason?
Answer. No, education is compulsory, and religion does not allow someone to refuse school or a class.
Non, l'instruction est obligatoire et la religion ne permet pas de refuser l'école ou un cours.
At school, you cannot refuse a class or a rule because of your religion. Educating children is compulsory. Homeschooling is only possible with State authorization. Failing to enroll your child in a school without a valid excuse, despite a formal notice, is an offense.

« À l’école, il n’est pas possible de refuser, en raison de sa religion, une règle de fonctionnement ou un cours du programme. C’est l’une des règles d’application de la laïcité dans les écoles. »
At school, it is not possible to refuse, on religious grounds, a school rule or a class in the curriculum. This is one of the rules for applying laïcité in schools.
