Napoleon Bonaparte has the Civil Code adopted in March 1804, then becomes Emperor Napoleon I in May 1804. This text sets common rules for everyone and still applies today.
The official text that proves it
« Le citoyen conserve l’égalité devant la loi, garantie par le Code civil de 1804 . Celui-ci fixe des règles communes à tous, notamment sur la famille, la propriété et les contrats. »
Citizens retain equality before the law, guaranteed by the Civil Code of 1804. It sets common rules for everyone, particularly on family, property and contracts.
