Why this one is different

And it actually hears you

That is the part I would rather you check than believe, which is why level 1 is free and not a teaser. The voice carries strong harmonics that fool simple detectors into hearing the wrong octave, and singers slide into a note before they settle. This one throws away the slide, grades the part you held, and knows which note it asked for, so it cannot report you an octave away.

That last line is on purpose. I would rather it tell you it is out of its depth than hand you a confident wrong answer.

Usable without looking at the screen

Every verdict is spoken in plain words, with no symbols a screen reader would mangle. The guidance is audio and haptic, and it goes quiet when you are in tune, so silence means you are right. Six languages, and four ways of naming notes, including movable do and the German H.

If you want the rest. The full file opens the other five levels, thirty exercises in all, in the order voices actually learn. Two notes at level 1, the five note scale by level 4, half steps only at level 5 once you can hold a note, leaps and the octave at level 6.

What it needs

A microphone, and a browser from the last few years. It asks for the microphone once, when you start, and the light goes out when you leave.

How it works, and where it was wrong

Every note it read used to come out sharp, by 2.6 cents at a concert A and by nearly 30 at the bottom of a bass range. The cause turned out to be arithmetic rather than audio, and the whole thing is written up with the measurements before and after, in my pitch detector read every note sharp. If you are going to trust a tuner with your ear, you may as well see where it failed.
