One date decides it, and it is the date you filed Form N-400, not your interview date.

It is the filing date, not the interview date. An interview in 2026 on a form filed in early 2025 is still the 100 question test.
The 65/20 exemption exists in both. If you are 65 or older and have been a permanent resident for 20 years or more you study only the 20 starred questions, and you may answer in the language of your choice.
Four answers are never in the booklet. Your senators, your representative, your governor and your state capital change with where you live, so the official list says Answers will vary. They are filled in per state on this site, for both tests.

Where these answers come from. The 128 questions and their accepted answers are the official USCIS civics test material, a work of the United States government. Senators and representatives were read from congress.gov and house.gov on 2026-09-04. Governor names were re-read from usa.gov on 2026-09-04, and state capitals from the same source on 2026-08-24. Office holders change, so check uscis.gov test updates before your interview.
