What attitude should a person have when witnessing violence?
Answer. Act without putting themselves in danger, for example by calling the police or the gendarmerie (17).
Agir sans se mettre en danger, par exemple en appelant la police ou la gendarmerie (17).
A witness should not simply do nothing. They protect themselves first, then help the victim, call law enforcement, or seek help nearby.

« Intervenir sans se mettre en danger : si une personne est témoin direct d’une violence, elle doit d’abord se protéger, puis aider la victime. Elle peut appeler les forces de l’ordre ou chercher de l’aide autour (autres témoins, responsables de lieu public, agents de sécurité…). »
Intervening without putting oneself in danger. If a person directly witnesses an act of violence, they must first protect themselves, then help the victim. They can call law enforcement or seek help nearby (other witnesses, people in charge of a public place, security guards).
