Who must respect the principle of religious neutrality in a prefecture?
Answer. The staff who work there, not the members of the public.
Les agents qui y travaillent, pas les usagers.
People who work in a public service must not display their religious beliefs. Members of the public, on the other hand, may wear a religious symbol.
The official text that proves it
« Les personnes qui travaillent dans les services publics ainsi que dans les entreprises ou associations qui ont une mission de service public ne peuvent pas exprimer ou montrer leurs convictions (religieuses, politiques ou philosophiques). »
People who work in public services, as well as in businesses or associations carrying out a public service mission, may not express or display their beliefs (religious, political or philosophical).
