What obligation does parental authority (autorité parentale) involve?
Answer. To protect the child and look after their safety, health and education, and to provide for their needs.
De protéger l’enfant et de veiller à sa sécurité, à sa santé et à son éducation, et de subvenir à ses besoins.
Parental authority gives both parents rights, but above all duties, until the child turns 18. They must protect the child, care for them, feed them and look after their education, without using violence.

« Les parents doivent veiller à l'éducation scolaire, intellectuelle, morale et éventuellement religieuse de l'enfant. »
Parents must look after the child's schooling and their intellectual, moral, and where applicable religious education.
