Who is school compulsory for?
Answer. For every child aged 3 to 16 who lives in France, whether French or foreign.
Pour tous les enfants de 3 à 16 ans qui vivent en France, français ou étrangers.
The requirement to be educated applies to every child living in France, whatever their nationality, from age 3 to 16.
The official text that proves it
« Français ou étrangers, tous les enfants âgés de 3 à 16 ans, qui habitent en France, doivent aller à l’école. C’est une obligation. »
Whether French or foreign, every child aged 3 to 16 who lives in France must go to school. It is compulsory.
