What schooling is provided for children who do not speak French?

Answer. Adapted classes to learn French, in special units called UPE2A.

Des cours adaptés pour apprendre le français, dans des unités spéciales appelées UPE2A.

The child first takes a French level test. They can then follow adapted classes in UPE2A, and later join the same classes as the other students once they have mastered French.

« Au moment de l’entrée dans l’école, l’enfant qui ne parle pas bien (ou pas du tout) le français passe un test de positionnement pour déterminer son niveau en français et l'orienter vers l'un des dispositifs suivants : »

When a child who does not speak French well, or does not speak it at all, starts school, they take a placement test to determine their level in French and to direct them toward one of the following programmes.
