In France, taxes fund public spending. Which statement is correct?

Answer. Everyone pays according to their means, and taxes fund public services such as schools, hospitals or roads.

The 1789 Declaration states that the common contribution must be shared among citizens according to their means. The higher the income, the higher the income tax.

The official text that proves it

For the upkeep of the public force, and for the costs of administration, a common contribution is essential, it must be shared equally among all citizens, according to their means.
