How are mayors chosen?
Answer. They are elected by the town council, from among its members.
Ils sont élus par le conseil municipal, parmi ses membres.
Voters elect the town councilors. The town councilors then elect the mayor from among themselves, for a 6 year term.
The official text that proves it
« Le conseil municipal élit le maire et les adjoints parmi ses membres, au scrutin secret. Nul ne peut être élu maire s'il n'est âgé de dix-huit ans révolus. »
The town council elects the mayor and the deputy mayors from among its members, by secret ballot. No one may be elected mayor unless they have turned eighteen.
