What is the Constitution?
Answer. The most important text in French law, which organizes the State and guarantees rights and freedoms.
Le texte le plus important du droit français, qui organise l'État et garantit les droits et libertés.
All laws must comply with the Constitution. The Constitutional Council checks that this is indeed the case.
The official text that proves it
« Le bloc de constitutionnalité est la référence juridique la plus haute : toutes les lois françaises doivent le respecter. Le Conseil constitutionnel est chargé de faire respecter la Constitution, la norme suprême en droit français. »
The bloc of constitutionality is the highest legal reference. All French laws must comply with it. The Constitutional Council is responsible for enforcing the Constitution, the supreme rule in French law.
