Working without being declared is illegal work. The employer risks prison and a fine, and the employee loses their rights, such as unemployment benefits, pension and Sécurité sociale (the national health and social insurance system) cover.

« Le travail non déclaré est interdit par la loi. Travailler ou faire travailler de manière non déclarée peut sembler pratique ou économique. »
Undeclared work is forbidden by law. Working or hiring someone without declaring it can seem convenient or cost saving.
