Victor Schoelcher, in charge of the colonies, drafts the decree of 27 April 1848 that permanently abolishes slavery in the French colonies, under the Second Republic.
The official text that proves it
« C’est aussi à cette époque que l’ esclavage est définitivement aboli dans les colonies françaises, grâce au décret du 27 avril 1848 rédigé par Victor Schœlcher , sous-secrétaire d’État chargé des colonies. »
It is also at this time that slavery is permanently abolished in the French colonies, through the decree of 27 April 1848 written by Victor Schoelcher, undersecretary of state in charge of the colonies.
