What are the mayor's duties?
Answer. To run the commune together with the town council, and to act on behalf of the State within the commune.

The mayor manages the affairs of the commune, for example schools, urban planning or local services. He is also a civil registrar, he performs marriages and organizes elections.

« C’est la collectivité la plus répandue sur le territoire (il y a plus de 35 000 communes en France). Elle est dirigée par des personnes élues, dont le maire. »
This is the most common type of local authority in the country (there are more than 35,000 communes in France). It is run by elected people, including the mayor.
