Registering a birth is compulsory. It is done at the mairie where the child was born, within 5 days of the birth.

« La déclaration de naissance est obligatoire. Elle doit être réalisée dans les 5 jours qui suivent la naissance, par le père, la mère ou par une personne qui a assisté à l’accouchement. »
