Answer. Civil marriage, held at the mairie.

In France, only civil marriage counts in the eyes of the law. It is held at the mairie by the registrar. A religious marriage on its own has no legal value.

Civil marriage is the only marriage recognised in France. Two people, of different sexes or of the same sex, can marry if these people meet the following conditions.
