What should a person do when faced with orders from police officers or gendarmes?
Answer. Respect them and obey. A challenge can then be made through legal channels.

Police officers and gendarmes act in the name of the law. Refusing to obey or resisting is an offense. If a person believes an officer acted wrongly, they can file a complaint or refer the matter to the Defender of Rights.

« tout citoyen appelé ou saisi en vertu de la loi doit obéir à l'instant ; il se rend coupable par la résistance. »
every citizen who is called upon or apprehended under the law must obey at once, they become guilty by resisting.
