What does article 1 of the French Constitution say?
Answer. "France is an indivisible, secular, democratic and social Republic."
"La France est une République indivisible, laïque, démocratique et sociale."
Article 1 sets out the main principles of the Republic. It adds that the Republic ensures equality before the law without distinction of origin, race or religion.
