Who can request a divorce for a married couple?
Answer. Either one of the spouses, or both together.
L’un des deux époux, ou les deux ensemble.
A divorce can be requested by just one of the spouses or by both of them. No one else can request it on their behalf, not their family and not the mayor.

« Il peut être demandé par l'un ou l'autre des époux ou par les deux lorsque chacun d'eux, assisté d'un avocat, a accepté le principe de la rupture du mariage »
It may be requested by either spouse, or by both, when each of them, assisted by a lawyer, has accepted the principle of ending the marriage
